The following Poem was submitted by Fritz Rappold,a member of the film society, based on the movie "Wake in Fright" screened November 10th.

'Aah outback Australia, a wondrous great place,
the heat, the flies, the feeling of space.
The colour, the dust that invades every sense,
the outback humour, the irreverence.

It's easy to knock, to exaggerate
the boozing, the gambling and to concentrate
on the violent bad things and have pity,
when you're so much smarter and you live in the city.

The people one meets in a small country town,
are gentlemen, ladies, maybe a hobo, a clown.
They all cope and do their share of the work
and they don't carry on and behave like a jerk.

Somehow I don't think they got it quite right
in the film of the outback called "Wake in fright".
If on country people and life I reflect,
I think they deserve really much more respect.

The characters there and the films depiction
of country life is a wild piece of fiction.
The real villain in this tale vile and gory
is surely the bastard who dreamt up this story.
